Bullet-resistant armor?

Since I read that bullet resistant armor cushions against the ‘focused blunt trauma’ of the bullet and spreads it out over the vest, I was wondering if the vest would also work on melee weapons that dealt such damage. For example, I am talking about things like punches, small hammers, and baseball bats.

I can only speak for military flak jackets, but yes, the trauma is reduced by spreading it out over a larger area. Several moves in the MCMAP syllabus involve kicking an opponent in the ribs with near 100% force…and nobody gets hurt because we are wearing flaks.

If you care to dig through Fox News’ archives, you can find a video of me receiving just such a kick in Times Square during fleet week 2009. It is as much force as it looks like, and while you don’t get used to it, you learn not to pay it any mind.
