How much danger are you in if the hair stands up on the top of your head in a lightning storm?

I was playing in a baseball game today and my hair stood up right before lightning struck about a mile or so away and I was wondering why this happened. I researched it online and found out that this is what happens right before you are struck by lightning and I was wondering how much actual danger I was in and what are the chances of being hit if you feel this sensation. Also, why did I get this feeling but the lightning was not really close to me at all.

Not an expert on the process of lightning but do know about electricity. If it is true that the hair stands up right before you get hit and this makes sense if it is due to the high electric field that is forming right on you just before electrons are exchanged between the earth and the clouds through you, THEN it could be that the electrical inbalance that was about to equalize through YOU was offset a nanosecond before by another path with less resistance 1 mile away. 1 mile away is not a lot with the dimensions we’re talking about.
