Mental Approach to Baseball Hitting : Baseball Hitting: Watching the Pitcher
hitting quicker pitching?
so i have been playing baseball for a long time now and recently been thinking that faster pitching is harder for me to hit not because of lack of physical capabilities but its all mental. i alsways am jumping out at the ball or wait too long on an inside pitch. alot of people i dont even know will see me hitting in the cage and tell me or my dad i have reaaly quick hands. so i should be able to hit faster pitches. im always worried ill get fooled on the off-speed stuff so it throws me off
what is your approach to hitting faster pitching (84 and higher)
i am a senior in high school
Just think about going back up the middle. Start your stride when the pitcher releases it but stay back. If you stay back it doesn’t matter if it’s an inside fastball or an off speed pitch you can still get around on it. Have some body you trust throw bp to you at full speed standing in the batters box without a bat . Try to pick up the rotation and read the pitch then try to call it out inside outside down the middle high low and the type of pitch. Take BP with a heavier bat it will give you more bat speed and the lag from using it will make the ball seem like it’s coming in faster. It’s all about the preparation if you are prepared you can hit it. The difference between 90 and 70 is only about a tenth of a second. So if you can read the pitch that much faster you can hit it.

Ron Jackson’s Hitting Factory: Improving Your Hitting I.Q.- Strategies for Success! (DVD) $29.99 With Ron Jackson, former Boston Red Sox Hitting Coach, 2004 World Champions! Develop a complete approach to hitting in this video with Ron Jackson, hitting coach of the world champion Boston Red Sox. Jackson has given his hitters an approach to hitting that has made them one of the best hitting teams in major league history, leading major league baseball in 10 offensive categories (2003-2004), and setting all-time major league records in extra base-hits (649), total bases (2,832), and slugging percentage (.491). Along with talent and hard work, all great hitters have an approach to hitting and can identify what makes them succeed and what does not lead to successful hitting. Jackson teaches how to best observe pitchers to help identify their tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses by focusing on different aspects of their delivery and mental preparation. He also stresses the importance of knowing yourself as a hitter and using personal strengths to gain an advantage at the plate. Jackson then gives a specific approach and recommended contact points for the fastball, curveball, slider, change-up, split-finger, and knuckle ball. In addition, Coach Jackson helps hitters know what hitting zones to focus on according to pitch type and count, and how to make adjustments accordingly. Hitters will learn how to develop a “good eye” at the plate by tracking each pitch using drills that will help them know the strike zone better. These principles to developing a hitting approach, combined with their natural ability and hard work, will make them a more successful and complete hitter! 40 minutes. 2005. |
