Bruised Muscle?

Two weeks ago I was playing my first game of paint ball with my boyfriend and I got hit by a ball about a inch and a half above my knee. At first it was a red bump in the shape of the paint ball. 2 days later I had a bruise the size of a baseball. Now the bulk of the bruise is gone but i have a bump thats the circumference of a golf ball and my the area is tender. There is still a red outline of where the paint ball hit. Did I bruise my muscle and should I be worried about it? Also hot or cold compress?
