I have been having trouble fielding in baseball any tips?
I know this is pathetic, but i am 14, and i think i have a confidence issue. i say this because last year i was a really good fielder, but in the first few practices i started sucking and then when we went outside for our first practice, everybody would start laughing every time a ball was hit to me, and its still going on and i can catch and field, its just that every time a ball is hit to me know, i panic thinking im gonna miss it
First of all, everyone makes errors sometimes, no one is perfect.
Second, instead of thinking about missing the ball, how about you think about the steps needed to field a ball correctly?
For OF: Initial step should be back, keep an eye on the ball, if the ball is travelling up but not farther back you need to close in on it, watch the ball into the glove.
For IF: Stay on your toes, keep your knees bent, eye on the ball, keep the glove done, watch the ball into your glove.
If you keep these steps cycling through your head, there’s no time for you to think about screwing up. Eventually, that confidence should return.
