what’s your favorite stat to judge performance? RBI? AVG? SLG? LOB? K? BB?

What do your eyes zero in on when you’re watching baseball on TV or reading on the internet? … Personally I tend to go hunting for LOB on the internet. I really don’t understand SLG so I ignore it. When looking at pitching stats I tend to look at IP and hits and earned runs and bb. I don’t look at WHIP

For hitters, I like OPS. To me, LOB is like RBI, there is a ‘team’ factor to it that is hard to separate. OPS at least starts to equate the contributions that both hitters who hit for average and hitters who hit for power make.

For pitchers, I will look at W-L for starters (while keeping in mind its inherent weaknesses), ERA (which almost always directly correlates with WHIP), the ratio of BB/K, and IP.

For relievers, I look at how they do with inherited baserunners, their ERA, the ratio of BB/K and their save percentage for closers (but never the save total).
