Baseball Hitting Tee Drills
baseball hitting tee drills
Baseball Drills you could do by yourself?
I already am hitting off a tee into a shed, throwing bottle caps up and hitting them, pitching to a target on a shed, using a medicine ball, running sprints, and throwing baseball against the shed and fly-pops in the air. What other drills could you do by yourself? ANYTHING, improve fielding, hitting, running, arm, pitching whatever… Thanks in Advance
Hi Connor R,
There are a number of different things you can do to develop your game on your home and some of the things you stated are a good start. Here, is a list of things you could consider:
1. Simply swinging your bat over 100 times a day as a left handed and right handed batter. It develops muscle memory in your swing to make it more automatic in games and develops arm strength.
2. To develop faster bat speed, use a plastic broom and take off the sweep end. By swinging this bat quickly, it has some polymetric advantages that will allow you to have a faster bat when you switch over to your regular bat.
3. To develop a stronger swing, consider hitting a somewhat flat basketball off of your tee or swinging your bat at a tire. If hitting a bat with a tire, use a spare bat that you don’t use in games.
4. To get a stronger arm, consider a weight training program geared towards baseball pitchers. It is best if you start this the summer after your 8th grade year.
5. To throw faster pitches, buy some weighted baseballs (some that are heavier and some that are lighter than a regular baseball). Alternate using these different weights, the result will be some more polymetric effects on your pitching arm allowing you to throw the ball faster.
6. To strengthen your arm, purchase a 3 to 4 foot piece of elastic or a baseball training aid that is made of elastic with a baseball on the end.
7. To improve your vertical leap, consider running stairs and stretching out your achilles. Although be careful when stretching the achilles as too much stress on it can lead to injuries.
8. Pay for lessons from an experienced instructor or go to the library and check out books on proper baseball techniques. Once you learn the proper techniques, practice your baseball swing and pitching motion everyday. Of all the things that you could do, these are the most important.
9. After taking lessons or reading up, periodically videotape your swing and pitching. This will give you a chance to review your practicing to see if you are still doing the right things and more importantly, show you where you can improve.
There are plenty more beyond this list. The important thing is to find a few that you like and consistently use them. If you do, you will see some of the gains you are looking for.
Best,
Jack Elliott

Hitting Drills and Technique (DVD) $39.99 With Gino DiMare,University of Miami Assistant Head CoachCoach DiMare’s system and philosophy for hitting is highlighted in this DVD. Coach DiMare teaches hitters to stand tall and finish at the plate. Sandbags are used to teach the correct stance needed. The Stride drill teaches players to load up their lower body to create power at the plate. The upper body is loaded up in drills where players position the bat with the barrel at a slight angle. DiMare describes the nine hitting zones in detail. Attention is given to each zone separately through toss drills and by using live hitters in a batting cage environment. The tracking drill helps develop the eye as it picks up the baseball as quickly as possible. Miami players use the tee to work on technique and fundamentals. This is an excellent DVD for detailed drills and hitting technique from one of college baseball’s elite programs. 39 minutes. 2006. |

Indoor Practice Drills: Hitting Drills (DVD) $39.99 With Scott Stricklin,Kent State University Head Coach;2006 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year;2008 & 2006 Mid-American Conference regular season titlesThis excellent DVD is dedicated to hitting and all of the important fundamentals needed to consistently drive the ball. A player’s stance and set up is the foundation of a good hitter. Coach Stricklin and his players demonstrate how the feet are a big part of the stance. A good bat grip consists of proper knuckle and elbow alignment, which allows you to “whip” the bat through the strike zone. A proper stance will require the bat be at a 45-degree angle. A level head will assure that your eyes are also level. The stride follows a good stance. Loading up the backside prepares a hitter for the pitch and is an important aspect of hitting. A good swing relies on the arms staying compact until contact is made, then hitters extend their arms through the hitting zone. Four things must be present for good hitters: head, back, back side and balance. Stricklin believes in the concept of “staying inside the baseball.” This means you are short to the baseball and hitting the ball where it’s pitched. The first set of drills demonstrates hitting off of a tee. The double tee drill produces two types of hits from two identical swings. To work on the timing mechanism, the soft toss drill gives players lots of hitting opportunities. Other hitting drills include the behind toss, angle toss and front toss. The bounce drill simulates pitches by bouncing the ball off the ground. Moving to the batting cage, players can practice simulated rounds of batting practice. Rounds will develop hitting from different situations such as bunting, hit and run, runner at second with no outs, runner at third base with the infield in, swing away and more. These drills will teach fundamentals and improve productivity and consistency at the plate.51 minutes. 2006. |
