He is best known for having caught more than 4,000 baseballs in the stands at Major League stadiums.Hample has written two books. The first, How to Snag Major League Baseballs, was published by Simon Schuster in 1999 when he was a junior at Guilford College. The second, Watching Baseball Smarter, was published by Random House in 2007 and was the 8th best selling American sports book that year. Zack Taylor (Baseball) $92.4 James Wren Taylor, better known as Zack (July 27, 1898 September 19, 1974), was an American Major League Baseball catcher with the Brooklyn Robins, Boston Braves, New York Giants, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and again with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The native of Yulee, Florida, joined the St. Louis Browns as a coach, and when Luke Sewell resigned as manager in 1946, Taylor finished out the season. After a disastrous 1947 campaign, Browns general manager Bill DeWitt rehired him as manager. He lost 100 games in two of his five seasons as manager, and after the 1951 season, he was fired. Taylor also coached for Brooklyn and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and remained active in baseball as a scout until his death in Orlando, Florida, in 1974. Zack Wheat $70.1 Zachariah Davis Zack Wheat (May 23, 1888 March 11, 1972), nicknamed Buck, was an American Major League Baseball left fielder. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959. A consistent hitter throughout his 19 year career, he still holds many Dodger franchise records. His brother McKinley Mack Wheat also played in the major leagues, and the two were teammates in Brooklyn for 5 seasons. Born in Hamilton, Missouri, Wheat began his professional baseball career in 1906 for Enterprise in the Kansas League, followed by Wichita in 1907, Shreveport Pirates of the Texas League in 1908, and finally, to round out his minor league career, he played for the Mobile Seas Gulls of the Southern Association in 1909.
