African American Hair tips?? Help!!!?

My hair use to be thick, long, and healthy…..UNTIL I started wearing half wigs(something l started, just being lazy after I had kids). Now, my hair is far from healthy, it’s still thick, and it’s only long on the back half of my head :’(( Which means that I have a million different lengths going on, the back is long enough that it goes past my shoulders, but its not healthy so I have no clue what to do. When I say a million different lengths I mean, some piece might be like 2inches!!! Yes, ITS A BAT SITUATION!! ( One stylist says my hair is growing and doing better :/ Another stylist won’t give her advice, and yet another stylist says that I’ll have to cut my hair. For someone use to having length, what kind of still can I actually CUT my hair into that WON’T having me crying everyday?!?! Help!! I need some tips QUICK! It’s too hott for these wigs and I’m ready to commit to growing my hair back out again.
