Im someone had a 56 game hit streak and walked 4 times in the next game, would the streak end?
We are having a debate at work. If someone tied Joe Dimaggio, and in the next game he played in, the pitched walked him 4 times in a row, would the streak end? I say no, because he did not have an official at bat. My co-worker argues that the hit streak involved number of games in a row, so it would. For that matter, would sac bunts and sac flies count. Say the batter goes 0 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 sac flies, would it end? Help!
Hey Moose! You are correct. A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all of a batter’s plate appearances (one or more) in a game result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit.
A player’s individual consecutive-game hitting streak shall be determined by the consecutive games in which such player appears and is not determined by his club’s games.
