Want to start fastpitch this spring[high school girl]?

So i was thinking about joining fast pitch. it was either this or tennis and i think fastpitch would be better for me since i can through like a guy and hit really hard (i was last up with a mixed team and i hit the ball so hard a made a dent in it the bat was plastic, but still the guys on my team hit really hard too so…)
anyways i just want to know what requirments i should have, or what i should work on.
I don’t know the positions so do you think i should learn them or will they teach us?
Anything else i should know?

Good for you =] Fastpitch is the best sport out there. Its really fun, and you get to represent your school. I would first learn a little bit about the game, and what the positions are, what is required for each, and maybe find one that is interesting to you, and appeals to your athletic ability. Then after that, I would go and buy a glove, (12.00-12.50inch) a 12.00 softball, and maybe a pair of cleats. After that, I would just start throwing the ball against a brick wall or something to work on your accuracy, and technique. Tape a target on the wall, and try and hit it as much as u can. After you feel like you have a sense of throwing with the basics, then go out and buy a bat of some kind. (Depending on your size, and strength) to start out with, a 32 inch 22 ounce bat is perfect. If you get a bat, just go and swing with it for a while, until you get used to the feel of how it is supposed to be held. (make sure and have your dominant hand on top, and your knuckles lined up) Then after getting the feel of how to swing, have somebody throw front toss to you, and just hit the balls for as long as you can. After that, take a piece of rope, or string, put a wiffle ball on the rope, and tie the string between two posts, or trees, and try to hit the wiffle ball with as little of a hit on the string as possible. This really helps with swinging level on the ball. Its good to develop these habits early.

Then, the day of tryouts, just show up and have fun. But definitely watch and study what others are doing, and try and follow them.
