Can people with one eye see 3D images, or have depth perception?
many online posts state that people with one eye do not have depth perception and also cannot see a 3D effect as in a 3D movie. I contend that this is erroneous. As a one eyed individual, I can see depth and can at times see 3D. I cannot see the 3D images in a movie or TV projection because the technology is only intended to be seen by people with two eyes. I also can see depth because my eye can take different bits of information from my vision of different things surrounding me and my brain can then interpret the information as depth. This is the same process as people with two eyes, except they are able to gather more information faster. I find it difficult to consistently hit a fastball in a baseball game because I am slower to respond to the ball traveling at high speed. I suggest that if manufacturers of 3D filming equipment would develop a new tech taking into account these issues, that their effects would be more widely accessed my more people.
There is particular kind of 3D vision that is only possible if you have two (or more) eyes.
It is based on the fact that both eyes see slightly different images, and objects appear differently displaced, depending on how distant they are.
Even with just one eye, you can perceive depth in at least two ways:
1. When you slightly move your head sideways or up and down as you look, you see your surroundings from different perspectives. You can see the object displacement change depending on how distant the objects are.
2. Your eyes can focus only on objects at a particular distance at a time. Everything else looks blurred.
3D movies employ the king of 3D vision that is only possible with two eyes. The screen is flat, so you have to focus at the same distance all of the time. As you move your head, this has absolutely no effect on the image on screen, so it appears as flat as it actually is.
