Proper Baseball Hitting Mechanics
proper baseball hitting mechanics
Pitch speed?
I know i asked this question before, but let me make things a lil clearer.
Im 16, never played baseball before, but i can field well and hit decent in the batting cages.
I can throw 68 mph not warmed up off flat ground, so how fast do you think I would be able to throw off a mound using a proper fastball grip and mechanics?
Is this a good speed for a 16 year old?
thanks-
Jay
With perfect mechanics, you could throw the crap out of the ball… but you must understand “perfect mechanics” are hard to come by.
I am a high school coach and I played some college ball… Pitchers are always trying to make their mechanics perfect. I would say are your age, you could add 5-7 mph off a mound with better mechanics… If you could get perfect mechanics, it would probably give you an extra 3mph on top of the 5-7…
If you are looking into playing baseball, you should start a long-toss program to make your arm stronger… by that I mean you play catch and back up until you can hit your target with a one-hop ball… and I don’t mean a rainbow… it has to be on a line to be effective (you should add a crow hop to put less stress on your arm)… then you work your way back in… make sure when you play catch you work your way back in and you don’t just finish throwing as long and as hard as you can… I would do this 3 times per week, and maybe 4 times if your arm can take it… Your arm will get sore, but thats just part of it… No pain, no gain right… this will give you the best results for adding mph to your arm…
Anyway best of luck with it, and work on those mechanics! But dont forget spotting your ball becomes more and more important the older you get!
Best of luck!
