How to Quilt: Sashing Tips From “Quilting Quickly with Jenny Doan on Sympoz.com
What is the next step in quilting, after sewing together all of your squares?
My sister-in-law and myself have been trying to put together a quilt. We picked out our pattern and cut out our squares, (triangles really but anywho~~) and have sewn all of them together. So now it’s basically the top layer of the quilt and we think the next step is to sew on the back and the batting, but we’re unsure of how to go about it. Also, once we finish that, she has concerns on putting a rim around the edge. How should we go about that as well?
We would both appreciate any tips and information you may have on the subject
Thank you Very Much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, Crowe, it’s a long, detailed explanation, so you may want to just get a book from the library. Generally, though, you choose a quilt batting, layer the backing, batting and quilt top, pin the layers then quilt by hand or machine. Again, lot detials missing… Then you add the binding, which you make from a coordinating fabric. Most people stitch it on by machine and finish by hand.
I’d recommend a beginning quilting book by either Alex Anderson or Eleanor Burns. Both authors are prolific and you should be able to find one of their books easily. You may alsso want to TiVo Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting OR, even better, do a keyword search for some quilting TV programs or look for instructions on YouTube. Pictures always help. Good luck with your project.
