noone qualifies as all rounders in world cricket now, if you have to go by
the saying, the all-rounder should have the talent where he can be selected for
his batting or bowling.

It is a good question.
You are right, BCCI is afraid to play an alrounder dreading failure. Greg has taken the inititive to continue with Pathan and see the results. Now it is the BCCI who has to groom and develop him as a force to reckon with. He should be given a long stint even if he fails. He is a genuine alrounder and should be given sufficient time. I am very pleased with his approach in the practice match and the batting talent he has shown by chipping in a century. When the class players were looking novoices he single handedly helped India reach a respectable score.
India should reserve one spot for an alrounder in test cricket as well as ODI.
I also feel the talent of Piyush Chawla should also be groomed and he should be developed into a good alrounder. He is still young and has the flare to excel.
