Soft Toss Hitting Drills

soft toss hitting drills

Batting/Fielding/Pitching drills to do at home or alone?

I really like baseball, and I want to get into the MLB. But my dad seems to want to do anything but throw me soft toss or pitch BP to me. I don’t have any siblings, and I do have friends but they don’t play baseball or live by me. I need drills that I can do INSIDE my house that don’t require a ton of space. Things that require ONLY a bat, glove, some kind of ball, a household item, and maybe a pitchback (mine kind of sucks). They could be for hitting, fielding or pitching. They can require two people or going outside, but I’d like if it were only for one and staying inside (I live in a very cold state). They could be for anything. Please HELP!
please, to summarize it all just please give me some batting fielding or pitching drills! that’s it!
i have about a big basement that is enough room for someone to roll me ground balls from about 8-10 feet away or swing without hitting something. but the ceiling is only about 6 ft

First off, how much space do you have to do this inside. If you have enough room somewhere to just swing and work on your batting stance you could do that. Also if you have a wall you can line up against to swing there is a drill where you take the bat and make sure you have that distance between you and the wall. Then take swings parallel to the wall. This will help you keep your hands in on inside pitches. You can also use the wall for other things. For a pitching drill stand with your back to the wall (in the stretch position) about 6 inches away. Then just go through the motion of pitching and make sure your hand does not hit or drag on the wall. You can also do this in the windup but just adjust the way you are facing at the start. This just helps you know if you are bringing your arm over correctly. You can also work on your pitching form without throwing by going through the motions and stopping at certain points to make sure things are in the right spot like your front arm (what is it doing), Front leg (are you stepping straight, opening up too much, front foot position), also your pitching arm and hand (are you coming over the top, is your hand over the ball). You can check all these little things without actually throwing. If you want o work on fielding grab like a tennis ball or a regular ball and throw it at the wall and field it when it comes back, but don’t use a glove. Just use you hands, this will force you to use both hands wost of the time. Another one to make sure when your fielding ground balls correctly is a drill that includes a hat. Take the hat turn it upside down and bite on the bill of it. Yes it seems funny but it helps you make sure you are fielding the ball in front and not directly under you. Just throw the ball against the wall and field it with the hat. You will notice if you are fielding the ball too close to you, you will lose sight of the ball.

Hope these help you

Indoor Practice Drills: Hitting Drills (DVD)

Indoor Practice Drills: Hitting Drills (DVD)

$39.99

With Scott Stricklin,Kent State University Head Coach;2006 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year;2008 & 2006 Mid-American Conference regular season titlesThis excellent DVD is dedicated to hitting and all of the important fundamentals needed to consistently drive the ball. A player’s stance and set up is the foundation of a good hitter. Coach Stricklin and his players demonstrate how the feet are a big part of the stance. A good bat grip consists of proper knuckle and elbow alignment, which allows you to “whip” the bat through the strike zone. A proper stance will require the bat be at a 45-degree angle. A level head will assure that your eyes are also level. The stride follows a good stance. Loading up the backside prepares a hitter for the pitch and is an important aspect of hitting. A good swing relies on the arms staying compact until contact is made, then hitters extend their arms through the hitting zone. Four things must be present for good hitters: head, back, back side and balance. Stricklin believes in the concept of “staying inside the baseball.” This means you are short to the baseball and hitting the ball where it’s pitched. The first set of drills demonstrates hitting off of a tee. The double tee drill produces two types of hits from two identical swings. To work on the timing mechanism, the soft toss drill gives players lots of hitting opportunities. Other hitting drills include the behind toss, angle toss and front toss. The bounce drill simulates pitches by bouncing the ball off the ground. Moving to the batting cage, players can practice simulated rounds of batting practice. Rounds will develop hitting from different situations such as bunting, hit and run, runner at second with no outs, runner at third base with the infield in, swing away and more. These drills will teach fundamentals and improve productivity and consistency at the plate.51 minutes. 2006.

The Coach's Guide to Hitting Drills (DVD)

The Coach’s Guide to Hitting Drills (DVD)

$39.99

With Brian Cleary,University of Cincinnati Head Coach The role of drills in hitting is to address the hitter building his swing as well as the player maintaining his swing. Coach Cleary’s goal when practicing hitting is not to hit the ball hard, but practice a swing that will translate to success in a game. Drills provide help in two areas; correcting faulty swings and building and maintaining good swings. Before drill work, Cleary breaks down the batter’s set up. He uses a tool called the ‘magic wand’ that helps him isolate parts of the hitter’s body to make corrections. Other tools used during drill work include the stride box, the tire, tees and soft toss. The goal for hitters is to be sound mechanically so their only job is to attack the pitch and the pitcher! 37 minutes. 2008.
