well im the kind of girl who plays evry sport offered at hand. and just recently today i signed up for softball. and im in 7th grade. i played baseball plenty of times b4. and im wondering if u can tell me the rules of softball and give me some cool hints and tricks. even thought baseball is kinda different please tell me some tips and things like how to play. and i played softball b4 but it was only a 3 day thing. and i think im good at catcher……bcuz im not afraid of tht bat hitting me. and i like catching and taking those nasty fast throws. so also if u can tell me bout hitting,rules, and catcher tips.

I’m assuming your’re spiking the elbow back to try to keep a short radius. This’ll damage your rotator cuff if you keep doing it. The only way to correct this to remember to roll the ball to a grip out of the glove and think C for the throwing motion. You want to make a big C and gradually get to a comfortable smaller c for a quicker throw. If you’re mirroring the ball with back foot perpendicular to the pitch on receiving it, you’re already lining up your front shoulder to the target. This will cut your throwing time down. Be sure to follow through with your back shoulder pointing to the target to get accurate throws consistently. This is called throwing 180 or shoulder to shoulder. Practice throwing the ball back to the pitcher’s left shoulder during sequence pitching practice off the mound. You’ll want to practice this in games too when returning the ball back to the pitcher because through his left shoulder is the throwing line to second base for throwing out wanna be base stealers.

Fine Centering and Soft Centering

A concept developed by Dr. Bill Harrison as he worked with the Royals Academy in the early 1970′s. The late Charley Lau utilized Dr. Harrison’s visual concepts at the Academy and beyond. Lau’s hitters thrived with this training and had tremendous results. The weight shift versus the rotary hitter debate I’ll save for another day. Even though I believe fervently in the rotary style, I will say both styles have merits, and Charley’s weight shift approach was somewhat misunderstood according to someone I know that worked with him in Chicago for awhile.

Dr. Harrison is still very active with baseball & vision training, and his son has a very sound reputation in training hitters and offers a variety of hitting and vision training aids. I recommend them highly to anyone. By the way, Charley Lau’s son, Charley Jr., is an active hitting instructor and travels the country giving instruction.
